Of Da Vinci Code Garden
First, we have the book. Then came the movie. Now, check out this Da Vinci Code Garden.Inspired by the book, designer David Domoney came up with The Sunday Mirror Da Vinci Code Garden for this year's Chelsea flower show.
One of the most eye-catching feature of the garden is a gravity-defying adaptation of the famous glass pyramid (See pic above) at the Louvre art gallery in Paris.

The Da Vinci Code
The novel by Dan Brown, complete with breathtaking escapes, dramatic surprises, brain-cracking puzzles and an intricate mystery, was a great riveting read which kept me occupied for hours and hours of excitement. However, when the movie came out, I knew I shouldn't expect too much. Before watching the movie, I was thrown with tons of negative opinions and criticisms about the movie, from reviews (See review by rotten tomatos here), blogs and friends. At the end of it, I was of the opinion that either people were expecting too much or they were taking the controversial issues too seriously.
Yes, there are a few notable changes to the book, like Silas shouldn't be dead, some puzzles were removed, Robert Langdon should be searching for the clues in the library and not using the Sony erricson handphone (K750), and the entire Priority of Sion shouldn't be present at the church of Roslyn, etc. Yet, most of these changes did not affect the storyline nor undermined its excitement too much. Surely, such changes will not degrade the engrossing plot into what some described as a insipid and crappy one right? And just why do some insisted that the movie should stick so stubbornly close to the book?
In all, I would say that it was a good movie, not superbly great but good nonetheless, which certainly justify that ticket price.
Anyway, I also recommend Dan Brown's other book, Angels & Demons.
------------
Also, I too cannot fathom why religious extremists want to put a ban to the movie and cause such a big hoo haa about the book, seeing it as such a huge threat. It was clearly stated that the book is fiction. By making such an effort, they are actually urging more to find out what the book/movie and this whole fuss is all about, thus backfiring their efforts.

Caffeine horror
(Via Serendipity)
The blogger discussed the negative effects of too much caffeine in our bodies. One of the findings that caught my attention as the symptoms also applied to me, is that "a good 175mg of caffeine in just one cup of coffee stimulating the overproduction of stomach acids was the key to my pooping tendencies every time." I have also been experiencing some of the mentioned side-effects like frequent visit to the toilet after a dose, diarrhea, loss of appetite, stomachache and restlessness of late.
Dang! Better cut down on my coffee intake man..
"As the brown liquid sits in its tranquility in the little styrofoam cup, I stared at it as though it was a creepy monster which grabbed and threatened to shred my stomach into pieces under its intolerably painful vice, sending me running to the loo a few minutes after it slipped down my throat."

Automatic Majong table!
Oh my god, this one is amazing. Lazy majong addicts will certainly love this.
Currently Gaming: Diablo 2
Intermittence flashes of blue light exploded in the distance in perfect harmony with the cries of terror echoing down the corridors. Fear overwhelmed him as he waited on in the room with his other companions and leader as though for their doom. Footsteps of the intruder grew unwelcomingly closer with each step augmenting the erratic pound of his heart.
Without warning, a spectacular orb of icy frostiness blasted into the room, unleashing freezing ice bolts along its path and shattering those who were struck by them. Then, just as instantaneous as it appeared, the orb burst into a magnificent explosion of ice bolts, spiraling outwards and piercing everyone in the room.
A peculiar coldness crept into his veins from the wound; he could feel his blood freezing up as the coldness overwhelmed them, slowly but surely to a point where he can no longer feel his body. He looked up to see his attacker as life gradually drained away from him, the sorceress was already gone.
-------
Yes, Currytan is back with Diablo2 LOD (again), and he is trying out the frozen orb/fire ball sorceress this time. Currently at level 69 in Nightmare Act 5, struggling to get past these creatures in the frozen river so as to complete a quest..

I kept dying to these creatures in nightmare act 5.. they come in large group and my fireball is just not at its prime yet..
Special thanks to Pandy for providing me with the Peasant Crown and the Oculus.

Opting-out NS?
Read this: Opt-out Option for NS by Pandy.
Basically, Pandy discussed the possibility of having an opt-out option of NS (National Service) with certain penalties imposed on him for life. These penalties could include a 30% additional income tax, lower priority in government services and less privileges or entitlements.
Also, there is the suggestion of a flexible service period option where the enlistee have the choice of when he want to serve his NS. This is different from deferment as this option does not require any official reason.
-----------------------------
A few thoughts that crossed my mind.
Given this option, most people will want to opt out of NS and there will be a serious lack of manpower in the army. In view of this, the option will not be implemented in the first place. One may argue that the penalties will be a great deterrence to most and will be able to retain most people in the force. Just think about the possible disadvantages that will stick with you for life, 30% increased income tax, etc..
Yet, i think otherwise. There will be some who think of NS as truly hellish and will be the first to raise their hand in support of the opt out option. Who cares about the penalties? Freedom is more important, they say. Then, there will be those who heard rumors/exaggerations from seniors and friends about how disgusting NS could be and thus when given such options, being influence by these opinions and make a wrong decision. Yes its all about decisions. In my opinion, at the age of 18, not all are able to make sound decisions when faced with a choice like this. Are we going to let such a system mess up someone's life just because of a wrong decision made due to that moment of impulse?
The second suggestion is more fleasible. Wouldn't we all love it if we could have the option to complete our studies first? But I would say that there should be a minimum age limit as to when this deferment can extend up to. Dun think there is of much use for a 70 yr old man to serve the army, is there?
Just my 2cents. And you can post yours over at Pandy's.

Thanks to Jared for lending me this game. =)
Story:
Jack Carver, an ex-commando, was sailing on his boat on a beautiful day guiding a journalist by the name of Val to an island. After Val is safely delivered to the island, Jack’s boat was suddenly attacked by mercenaries. Jack managed to escape yet was trapped in an island with not just mercs relentlessly hunting down for him but also dangerous experimental creatures known as trigens lurking around.
He needs to find out what the hell was going on while rescuing Val (who turns out to be some CIA agent) and trust a mysterous man by the name of Doyle who guided and provided him with vital info of the enemies by means of a radio.
Some screenshots:

One of the most chaotic scene where trigens and mercs are all around shooting at each other and you.

This one is the first of the trigens encountered, known as monkey, and is very deadly which can kill you in just one hit if you do not have any armor. (yea, i am dead after taking this screenshot..) Easily killed with headshots.

Another trigen known as the "BigBoys" which is usually armed with a rocket launcher (this one just dropped his..) and is very deadly at close range for obvious reasons..

This one is an invisible trigen which can only be seen through the thermal vision goggles.

Champions League final

Barcelona 2 - 1 Arsenal
This morning's finals saw a determined Arsenal hanging on with a 10-men team after the goal keeper was send off early in the game. Lehmann rushed out into an approaching striker and tripped him off the ground with his hands to prevent an impending goal. A red card was shown to his face instead, leaving the gunners down to 10 men with their confidence greatly affected. Yet, their morale was quickly restored by the 37th minute where
In all, I am of the opinion that Arsenal did a great job in hanging there with 10 men and leading for almost 40 minutes. If not for the early keeper sent off, the situation would probably be completely different altogether. Then again, I felt that the referee was somewhat hasher on Arsenal, or is it just me..? Yes I was hoping for an English victory.
So there, one of the most exciting matches I've watched. Now I am looking forward to some world cup actions.

BBC Mistakes Cabbie For Net Expert & Broadcasts Interview

"A computer expert has spoken of his astonishment at seeing a taxi driver interviewed on BBC television news in the mistaken belief it was him.
The cabbie, who has not been named, gamely attempted to answer questions fired at him by BBC consumer affairs correspondent Karen Bowerman."
Check out that ohh-i-am-so-screwed look on the cabbie face at the beginning of the interview when he realised what was going on.
Get the full story and watch the video here
Updated: The wrong guy, Guy Goma, is actually not a taxi driver, but a business graduate waiting for a job interview for an IT job with the BBC. It turns out that he was being ushered into a wrong interview..

Of cool puzzles
Couple of interesting puzzles i got from LancerLord lately.
Grain Strain Puzzle:
Make use of the devices at the bottom to transport all the grains to the bucket within the time limit.
After a cycle, repeat the same puzzles with the time limit reduced by 10 secs.
Can be quite addictive!
Junk's Hanio:
Move all the pieces to the lower right corner using ur mouse to drag and drop.
Something like the tower of hanio.

And so it's over
Yes I know exams are over and i should be updating. Yet, I did not get much surfing time lately due to gatherings, meeting up with friends, job hunting/interviews and giving tuition. Ah yes, tuition kids having exams soon and all the parents are getting panicky. Especially the pri 4 kid's who whined about how the child has been failing all his tests during my 1 month absence and that she was totally lost in her failed attempt to teach the kid decimal.. In fact, she almost demanded me to go down straight after my last paper which, fortunately, I pushed it till the weekends instead. I am glad I did becos I was damn shag after my math paper.
Speaking of which, the math paper wasnt really that tough in my opinion. Its just that there isnt enough time for us to play around with. 14 questions in 2 hrs. And our seniors last year actually had 2.5 hrs for 10 questions. Some were rather tricky and some tested our concepts instead of just merely whacking formulas from the helpsheet. Then, there is this question which i will remember forever man. The question require us to use strokes' theorem to find the line integral. And when I calculated, the curl turned out to be zero! I thought it was a mistake and I went back to check my workings, spending almost 20 mins on this and giving it up at the end. Turns out that i was actually right, as zero curl means that its a conservative force, hence the line integral is zero. Dang.
The rest of the papers were pretty alright, cs1102c turned out to be surprisingly easy and critical thinking & writing turned out rather shocking. Physics was average and econs was not so good..in fact, disastrous.
