Of cors and the technical electives

Alright, this is the day for round 1A of module bidding and most of my fellow EE friends should be bidding for their technical electives for the 1st time. Gosh, time to throw those program points (read: 3k++ points) man, it has been collecting dust since yr1...lol

Some of you must be wondering, when adding your desired technical electives (TE), why in the hell are there 2 entries for each modules under the selection? Well well, there are 2 codes for each TE, 12 represent Technical electives while 27 is UEM (Unrestricted elective module). So if you confirm want that mod to fulfill the 4 breadths 4 depths TE requirement, add it under 12. 27 is to fulfill ur UEM requirment, its for crazy idiots like me who wana take a TE and then go s/u it, which means that module will not be counted towards the TE requirement.

However, after checking up the module declaration policies (here), i realised this:

"A GEM, SS, Breadth and TE module when declared as UEM can be converted back to their original module type at any point during your candidature in NUS via the Online Degree Requirement Check (DRC). However, a Technical Elective (TE) when declared as a UEM and opted on S/U cannot be converted back to TE. Grading for TE has to be graded only."

So even if you declare as a UEM (27), you can still converted back to TE(12). And since, 27 can s/u while 12 cannot s/u, so... if you are unsure about a module that you have chosen, you can always take it as UEM then have a feel of it and decide on whether to s/u or not. If wana s/u, you have the option of doing so, great! If not, you can always convert if back to TE to fulfill the requirements. Hows that? lol

On a side note, EE3408 (Integrated Analog Design) only got 80 seats with 70+ bidders already and some joker bidded 2500 points liaoz, siao!

Of EE3702

After checking out some of the EE technical electives, i found one that could be of interest to gamers. Oh my, finally a module where you can play games!

EE3702: Electronic gaming, this module provides a overview of electronic gaming and covers the basics of the game industry and game production, ranging from business environment, game developments to game structures, design, tools and technology which includes the graphics (Visualization basics; sprites; texture and polygon handling; shaders and rendering; particle systems; shadows; effects; DirectX, OpenGL; morphing, kinematics and animation), the platform (Technical details and platform capabilities; PS3, PS2, Xbox360, Wii, PC, PSP, DS, mobile phones), the AI, sounds, network structures, etc.

The assessment is based on 50% exam and 50% project work. The project will consist of a team of around 3 and they will develop a game idea and a related development proposal document, covering topics like game design, marketing, technology base, schedule, and financial planning.

Students will need to play a range of different game demos and required to follow gaming industry news at http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php and http://www.gamespot.com/news/.

Hahaha sounds so fun, might take this as my 5th module instead and s/u it! Anyone wana join me? Heh. =)

Of timetable sem1 0708

Next sem timetable's out and a quick planning via the timetable builder gave me the following:

EE3001: Technology Assessment (Project module)
EE2007: Microprocessor system
EE3407: Analog Electronics
EE3408: Integrated Analog Design
EE3101: Digital Signal Processing (Maybe...)

Actually i intend to take EG2401 (Engineering professionalism), but it clashes with EE3407. I could have delay 3407 to next sem, but it clashes with something else next sem if i were to do that, so EG2401 will have to wait then. This means i have to find one more module to replace, but the other 2 breadth technical electives i intend to take are both available only in sem2 and i dun wana pia the depth electives yet...

So someone suggested Digital signal processing, since its quite pervasive in all electrical engin fields. But... it's signals stuff.... Either that, or i might just find some interesting arts module to s/u. Perhaps logic or dynamics of interpersonal relations or something..

Bidding is like pretty soon (next week?), let's worry about the 5th module then.. haha, for now still gotta have more fun before the vacation ends. Oh yea, the chalet in sentosa was great, the soccer game was fun, and so was the sightseeing, heh.

Of Platform Racing

Race with other online players and get to the ending point as fast as you can!

6 levels in total; have to get certain number of points before you can unlock the next level. My favorite level was infernal hop with a best timing of 39 secs! Heh.

It was quite fun, but only for a while. Cos after you try out all the levels, the excitement and fun died down. If only there are more levels then it would be great.

Try it out!

Bowmaster Game

"Your kingdom is under attack! You are armed with a legendary bow and can use a variety of spells and different types of magical arrows to defeat your enemy. Use strategy to prioritize your targets and exploit their weaknesses."

There are 4 modes of shooting, auto aim, point aim, pull string and drag anywhere.

1) Auto aim is where the arrow will go directly to your mouse click, no challenge at all lar, dun be such a wussy.

2) Point aim is similar to that of auto aim but this time your arrows will be subjected to effects of gravity. Power is determined by a power bar which you can set. Personally, this mode sucks, dun use it.

3) Pull string mode is the challenging one and the method I prefer cos it somewhat simulates the pulling of a bow string by clicking and holding a green circle button, then dragging and releasing it. The power is determined by the distance of how far back you pull the string and the angle is determined by the rotation of your bow.

4) The last one, drag anywhere, is similar to pull string mode only that for this one you are not restricted by the green circle and can drag anywhere you like.

There are skills and upgrades which you can get by using the money you earn after each level.

My opinion is to get the summons asap so you can have an easier time killing the enemies. However, there's friendly fire, so I always accidentally hit my own warriors and end up feeling so dumb lol. Next, dun bother about those weak single target magical arrows like fire and ice arrow; they sucks due to the cool down time. Go for those upgrades with AOE like fire wave and ice wave arrows, they are really handy.

Play Bowmaster here!

Of jobless and happy slacking

As some of you would have known, I have been working in SGH pharmacy for like 1.5 months and now i am finally out of the job. Not that they dun wan me anymore, but more like I want a break already. As I have mentioned to some of my friends, this could well be the last holiday I get to enjoy. Coming December, there is the reservist for 2 weeks. That means half of the holidays will be wasted. Next 3 months break, I am most likely doing my vacation internship, so no time to enjoy liao. Next December break would probably be taken up by fyp. So yea, better slack now if not no more chance sia. lol.

Right, the pharmacy job was an interesting one. Get to meet lots of people and learnt some medicine & their usage. The job itself actually involves quite abit of memorizing skill. Both short term memory as well as long term memory comes into play here. The medicines are placed in their picking locations and we pick the medicine by following the location printed on the labels of each case. Most of the time, the pharmacist usually do not take the labels away from the prescriptions so as not to cause confusion to the rest picking or checking, so we will have to memorize 1) the location, 2) the drug’s name (for verification), 3) the quantity. After which, we go to the respective locations and pick the required amount and pack them into zip lock bags ready for dispensing. By my last week, I managed to memorize most of the common drugs picking location. And so when the latest batch of interns came along (they are being rotated once every 1.5 weeks), they were quite impressed by the way i actually could point out the location without looking at the location printed on the labels. Actually, if you work there long enough, it is not that hard to achieve that lar.

Pharmacy people also have to be good in their mental calculation and the 7, 14 and 28 multiplication table. Cos the medicine are usually either in strips of 10’s or 7’s or 14’s and some in boxes of 100’s, 30’s or 28’s. Of course those nice numbers are easy to play around with but those weird weird ones like 14, 28 are the ones that cause problems. Ah, why the medicine comes in those numbers arh, I hear you ask; why not make them all in 10’s? Well, there’s a good reason for it and it’s not that hard to figure why.

Some of the common drugs I learnt:

Daneuron – contains vitamin B1, B6 and B12 which are effective in the treatment of pains due to disturbances of the peripheral nerves. This one very very troublesome when it comes to topping up cause they are wrapped up nicely in plastic in boxes of 100’s. Means I have to open the box, tear open the plastic and then tie them up.

Omeprazole – prevents the secretion of gastric acid and thus used in the prevention and treatment of gastric related diseases. This one is a very common drug, comes in strip of 7’s and often goes in 60’s 90’s and 120’s. So we usually do pre-packs in those amounts to improve efficiency.

Norvasc (Amiodipine Besylate) – treatment of hypertension and used to control blood pressure. This one has 3 different strength (5, 10 and 20 mg) and comes in boxes of 30’s, usually goes in amount of 90’s.

Metformin - anti-diabetic drugs which reduce the cardiovascular complications of diabetes particularly in those with cases of obesity and insulin-resistance.

Glipizide - another anti-diabetic drug.

Glucosamine sulfate – treatment or act as a health supplement for osteoarthritis which is caused by wearing of the cartilage in the joints.

Procodin syrup – temporary relief of coughs, in bottles of 100 ml. This is also very common sia.

Lactus syrup - treatment of constipation by allowing the bowels to draw in more water from tissues. This one pretty common too and sometimes goes in around 10 bottles... 200ml each btw.

And there are more but dunno their usage like dipyridamole, tramadol, fluimucil, etc. Okok you people must be pretty bored by all these bo liao things already. Alright then, thats all for now.
